Not leaving. Think this is all a stupid load of bullshitty horsecrapness. Apologies to people on my flist that might be migrating but I'm not creating another journal I won't check. Sorry. If LJ goes completely belly up, then you'll see me, but not before.

Snagging a blurb from an article because other people outline it more adequately than I can without sounding biased. Taken from Six Apart At It Again, Deletes Fan Art Journals on LiveJournal (http://firefox.org/news/articles/550/1/Six-Apart-At-It-Again-Deletes-Fan-Art-Journals-on-LiveJournal/Page1.html)

"Once again, Six Apart has been suspending the LiveJournals of users posting "inappropriate" content. Due to the brouhaha over "Strikethrough 2007," the admins at LJ have also taken a new approach to suspensions: bolding account names instead of striking them through. In traditional fandom response, fans have been flooding the posts at LJ News with angry responses and cat macros.
The post which set off the chain reaction seems to be a fanart piece featuring Harry Potter and Severus Snape, which the artist (whose account was permanently suspended) says is not in fact a depiction of underage sex."

It's not hard to do searches and find info on this round. I just posted because I've already lost one or two folks off my flist who are going to other services and will only rarely check LJ.

I'm sorry to hear that they are, but that's their prerogative, just like it's SixApart's prerogative to set and enforce rules that it considers appropriate.

This post inspired a rant -- check my LJ, I'll spare your journal. :)

I'm not entirely disagreeing with their choices, moreso their methods and what they are leaving up that could be taken in just as offensive or harming a way as fanart. There's been one long discussion about how they take down fanart makers and comms and leave up things like the pro-anorexia and hate-crime-related groups.

Either way, it's not enough to get me to leave. *shrug*

Yeah, there's a snowball there, though. Where does it stop? I'd like to see photos and videos of animal cruelty be banned as inappropriate content as well, but does that make it a good idea?

Don't we tout equality in this country, though? That everyone gets the same treatment under the law? If one thing is taken down, why not another, and another?

The same thing is happening on DeviantArt. Art of one kind is being taken down while otherwise blatant art is left up under the banner of 'artistic nudity'.

Ultimately, these people are being pulled down because someone didn't like what they had to say or create and decided to pull a stinker. It's not the sites themselves are even finding the questionable material on their own to begin with. Half the time they don't know it's their until someone waves a little 'NIMBY' flag.

I'll have to agree to disagree with you on your rant. I'm not a good enough debater to pick out good opposing viewpoints and remain calm. Suffice to say that we differ in opinion on this matter.
