Well, work did it to me again. I have time off planned for next week so I can go to Otakon. Had this set up for weeks... months, even. Got told a few weeks ago that the time off was no problem.
So, of course, I get the weird schedule WTFery right before I go. Usually this has been as simple as having been scheduled to work on a day I requested off. Easy to fix and smooths over fast... it's just happened more than once in the year I've worked here.
This takes the cake.
I was, originally, going to drive up to
nightambre's place on Wednesday. I wasn't set on a time in case work gave me a morning shift. It happens, I'd have worked with it. It doesn't happen often, though, so I wasn't stressing it. Schedules were, as usual, late this week (just came in about an hour ago). Nothing new there.
I was schedule to go do a Target. My heart sank. Target inventories don't start until 10pm and we don't often get out until between 2 and 4am. Then there's the drive time... which I looked for where it was next to gauge.
WILLIAMSBURG, VIRGINIA. Meet time of 6pm, start time of 10pm. My eyes bugged from my skull. Four hours? FOUR HOURS? Farthest I've gone on an inventory to date as Bluefield, WV and that was only 3... and a day job at that. Oh, I see also that I'm scheduled to drive this job. I see it now. Even if we got out at 2am, I'd be home by 6am. Worst case, my crew gets stuck pulling the inventory tags and we don't get out until 4am... and be home by 8am. I'd be dead and worthless.
Forget driving up to Maryland... by the time I slept I'd have to drive in to Baltimore by myself. Not a fun prospect after crashing in bed for however many hours I could manage. So, I sat and thought about it for a minute or two, babbled at
nightambre about it... and decided NO. Not doing this. Technically I'd be working into my day off after the first two hours in the store. Uh-uh. Doesn't fly. I didn't put in for some or half of a day off. I put in for ALL of a day off.
So I have thusly written back and stated that I can not do Target that night. I've stated my requested time off and such and am hoping for the best. I just get the sinking feeling that this is the last straw.
